10+ Years Behind the Camera

Cristal Jefferson is a New York City-based Director of Photography and Creative Director with over a decade of experience across documentary, music, commercial, and short-form work.

Most recently, she served as Creative Director for Kiehl's 2026 “Love is Natural” Pride campaign — a project that called on her instinct for authentic storytelling, her sensitivity to community, and her ability to translate brand vision into imagery that feels genuinely alive.

Her cinematography work has earned recognition on the festival circuit, with Fighting Spaces (2026) selected for the Brooklyn Film Festival and Westside Familia (2026) selected as a feature film at the Black Star Film Festival.

Her credits include productions for VICE, Noisey, HBO, Munchies, Showtime, Vogue, BBC, Bloomberg, the NBA, and Columbia University — spanning documentary, studio, music, culinary shoots, live events, and high-risk field environments. Her HEAT training certifies her to operate safely in volatile and conflict-adjacent locations.

A decade of nature photography grounds her technical instincts — particularly around light, exposure, and color — giving her a reading of the frame that goes beyond production training alone.

Editing

Cristal's expertise doesn't stop when the camera does. While her primary focus is behind the lens, years of hands-on editing experience mean she can carry a project from first frame to final cut when needed. Whether the footage is handed off to a dedicated editor or she sees it through herself, her understanding of both sides of the process ensures a consistency of vision and quality that runs through every stage of production.
